PussyCat Bears were conceived many years ago by a kindly Antipodean grandfather, Colin Fraser. Sonya Heron, a multi-award-winning Australian teddy bear maker, designed Petronella and Mr. McGuff. Height of each approximately 15 inches, finest German mohair, fully jointed neck, legs and arms. Designed as a collectors piece, with German hand-made glass eyes (therefore not suitable for small children).
Petronella (pictured on left)The leader of the advance landing party. Looks that melt the heart. Hungry for human love. Occasionally displays a rakish, wot-the hell attitude. Arrived holding this place card:
"Cats and Bears of the World Unite"
Mr. McGuff (pictured on right)Very friendly knockabout character, who yearns for kindness and affection. Carries the odd scar, the legacy of a hard year or two. Favorite saying:
"Bears arent the only ones like to feel loving arms around them."

Theyre cuddly, kind and endearing. All the huggable loveableness of a traditional teddy. And they stylish, mysterious never-quite-yours personality of a cat that definitely knows it own mind. Petronella thinks its unfair that bears have had all the fun for so long Outrageous my dears! But Mr. McGuff is more philosophical. We are here to lift up the hearts of all those who love cats AND bears. Forever and ever.
The Day of DiscoveryIt is now reliably recorded that Petronella and Mr. McGuff were discovered in the Antipodes, at dawn on a cold June day. A passing schoolgirl named Angela True saw them sitting together under a mysterious cone of light. Petronella was carrying a placard. Mr. McGuff was completing his own sign, in his very spiky handwriting. It said, Theres nothing like a cuddle from a PussyCat Bear. Really, Trooty.
Suddenly the cone of light disappeared. And quick-thinking Angela True gathered up both the bears, gave them each a big welcoming hug, and carried them into Civilization As We Know It.
Angela, a sensitive child, said: Today these Very First PussyCat Bears have made history together. And, for the Sake of Posterity and in the interests of Serious Collections Everywhere, they should never be separated, torn asunder, or otherwise parted.
The Lord Major of the Antipodes passed a solemn decree that this should be so as long as they both shall live. Ahforever together, signed Petronella. And double the love for everyone who wants us, said Mr. McGuff.About the Artist and Creator of These Lovely Bears
I was so impressed with these bears that I decided to do some research and contact the Australian artist. Here is what she said in her email reply to me about these lovely bears. " Now about the "Pussycat Bears"... Firstly, although I designed them, I didn't conceive the idea. The credit for that belongs to a gentleman here in Melbourne called Colin Fraser, who was directed to me by one of the Bear shops in the city when he asked them if they knew anyone who could bring his ideas to life. We got together and he outlined his ideas of how he wanted them to look (the heads had to look just as much like a real cat's head as I could get them). I accomplished this using 17 different pieces to make up the head. Once I'd done this, I found that my work had only just begun. In fact I became the project manager, organizing material suppliers, networking for Colin and finding a manufacturer who could reproduce these items to the high standard that we required. After some weeks I came up with some prototypes that Colin was happy with and we sent them to a company in South East Asia, who could do the job to our satisfaction.
Once they sent us back their samples for our approval, my job was pretty much over (although Colin did have plans for me to design more Pussycat Bears, they didn't come to fruition and my involvement with the project came to an end) and Colin liaised directly with the manufacturers. I think he had about 500 pairs made up, but there may have been more and from memory the price was about US$500,00 per pair. (wholesale!)
Although I can't create anymore Pussycat Bears for copyright reasons; the intellectual copyright belonging to Colin Fraser. I design and create collectible Bears, Dolls, and Gollies. I have also designed a range of patterns for people who wish to try their hand at making their own Bears/Dolls/Gollies.
My first love though, is creating Bears and I find that I have more ideas in my head for different Bears than I can find time to bring to life! I hand-make nearly everything that comes with one of my Bears, from quilts and brooches, to shoes and hat-boxes and everything in between. Most Bears come with another smaller Bear, or a Golly, or cloth Doll, or combination."
Summary
I think you will agree these are very special and a superb quality limited edition collectible.
